The US’ top financial watchdog has settled with Dallas-based blockchain startup Bitqyck Inc. over allegations it fraudulently sold shares of company stock to more than 13,000 buyers of its Bitqy cryptographic token. Hundreds of dental offices across the US have been crippled by a ransomware attack targeting a remote data backup service offered by a third-party. Percsoft and Digital Dental Record (DDR) — the two Wisconsin-based software companies — provide a solution called DDS Safe that delivers triple-layer protection by backing up sensitive medical records to the cloud, an offline workstation, and an in-office hard disk drive. Researchers from Google have uncovered what appears to be a concentrated malware campaign targeting iPhones for at least two years. Thankfully this may be over now, although they warn it’s possible there are others that are yet to be seen. After critics called out Apple on its restrictive hardware repair policies, Apple announced yesterday it’ll allow repairs from third-party repair shops, and sell them parts for aftermarket service. Authorities in France say they have shut down a cryptocurrency mining botnet that had infected more than 850,000 computers across 100 countries. The former Amazon Web Services employee thought to be behind the data breach of Capital One bank earlier this year appears to have also used the infiltrated cloud servers to surreptitiously mine cryptocurrency. According to court documents, Paige Thompson was indicted yesterday after hacking Capital One bank and 30 other entities, and has been charged with wire fraud, and computer fraud and abuse. Apple might finally be able to sell iPhones directly to customers in India from its own online store.. Yesterday, the government said it’s relaxing local sourcing norms for foreign direct investment (FDI) for single-brand retail, opening the door for Apple store like outlets.  That means the companies aren’t obliged to follow the rule that allowed brands to sell via their owns stores only if they source 30 percent of their hardware components locally. Apple today announced a new shift in company policy that prioritizes user privacy — at least with regards to Siri audio recordings. Now the company promises only in-house employees will listen to the recordings it has of you, and only if you consent.
